About septic systems

A typical septic system consists of the pipes that lead from the home; the septic tank; and the leach field. Fluids flow from the house to the septic tank where solids settle to the bottom, and oil and grease rise to the top. The purpose of a septic system is to take all the waste people put in and break it down until clean, pure water flows out into the ground. The purity of the water that leaves the system (the effluent) is important because it becomes part of the environment, affecting plants, animals and humans.

A normal septic system can work properly for many years, needing only occasional pumping to remove the buildup of solids on the bottom of the septic tank. However, every area of the septic system can become problematic if conditions are right.

Most septic system problems can be boiled down to one of two problems: a weakened microbial population or poor water flow. These conditions are caused by a variety of factors, and each can result in several disturbing problems.

Read about these problems and then see how Septikos® works and how it can cure most common problems.
