Septic System Problems:
Septic tank pumping too frequent?

order-form
Causes:
Heavy input of solids (garbage disposal)
Weak microbial population
Too little time in the septic system
System too small

Why septic tank pumping can be too frequent

The septic tank must be pumped when solids and sludge build up too much. When buildup becomes excessive, wastewater will have trouble entering the system, often resulting in system backup.

In a more typical scenario, buildup causes wastewater to spend too little time in the septic tank to be properly degraded. When this happens, sludge collects in the tank and solids will pass into the drain field, taking with them serious problems. Oil and grease clog the leach field, leading to wet spots, system backup and system failure. Also, harmful pathogens like F-Coliform and salmonella can pass into the ground water and into lakes and streams where they can become health hazards.

Under normal conditions, a septic tank should be pumped every three to five years. Pumping will be more frequent if a lot of food is put into the system (usually through the in-sink garbage disposal). These solids are more difficult for microbes in the system to digest, so they require more time.

Also, if the microbial population is weakened by the use of harsh chemicals or environmental factors, there will not be enough microbes to effectively degrade the waste before it leaves the system.

In some cases, the septic tank's capacity is too small to handle the waste that passes through it. Waste will accumulate in the tank quicker than normal because wastewater moves through too quickly for thorough digestion.

Solution for frequent septic tank pumping

• Use Septikos® to strengthen the microbial population
• Practice water conservation
• Reduce solids input
• Reduce use of harsh chemicals

To sustain a microbial population that can handle a heavy load of solids under a compressed schedule, use Septikos® regularly. Septikos® gives microbes missing nutrients they need to multiply quickly and degrade difficult substances.

Septikos® will keep the microbial population strong enough to break down waste before it leaves the system. They also will work on sludge that has accumulated in the septic tank, and has even been known to eliminate the need to have the system pumped.

Experts recommend reducing the use of harsh chemicals like cleaners, putting less food in the system through the garbage disposal, and conserving water. These things will help improve septic system performance, but can be inconvenient and difficult to control. We agree with the experts, but Septikos® is so effective that some users will not need to change their habits or lifestyle at all.
